(ConservativeFreePress.com) – President Joe Biden’s fundraisers are facing considerable hurdles since his debate performance.
According to campaign bundlers speaking to CNBC, some in Biden’s fundraising machine have stopped making calls to donors because “no one is picking up the phone.”
Bundlers, typically wealthy donors, agree to solicit fundraising from would-be donors in their personal network.
However, since receiving questions about whether Biden would still be the Democratic nominee and blowback from those in the network who want Biden to withdraw, some have stopped making calls.
John Morgan, a longtime Biden ally, told CNBC he’d stop raising money and writing checks until he is certain Biden would be the Democrats’ nominee.
Morgan described the “next few weeks” as “key,” adding that his “donors need to be sure [Biden] is the nominee.”
However, chair of Choice Hotels and megadonor Stewart Bainum was critical of Biden, suggesting the President “pass the baton” in the best interest of the U.S. and the world. Bainum explained donors would “help the nominee — whoever that is — after the convention,” but wouldn’t do that before.
That means there’ll be six weeks of fundraising drought for Biden as the Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19 to 22 in Chicago.
Ari Emanuel, another Democratic megadonor, noted in the morning after Biden’s dismal debate performance that large donors he’d spoken to were pulling their fundraising from Biden and instead donating to down-ballot congressional races.
Biden’s campaign raised $264 million in the second quarter and entered July with $240 million in cash.
