(ConservativeFreePress.com) – On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed a new bipartisan bill that is looking to boost the nuclear power of the U.S. The move has been described by supporters as a historic victory for the sector.

The nuclear package is going to reduce the fees while expediting the timeline for new nuclear reactors to gain licensing. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will also be required to put a report on possible ways to shorten the environment review process while also simplifying it.

Supporters have argued that the legislation is going to allow for the climate-friendly energy source to be expanded.

This latest bill is in combination with another bill that once again hands authority to the U.S. Fire Administration while also granting firefighters programs. In a post on social media, Biden announced the ADVANCE Act arguing that it would lead to “clean nuclear power” while also increasing the available “union jobs.”

In a joint statement Reps. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), as well as Sens. Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) noted that the bill had been signed into law by Biden.

Carper, who is also the chair of the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee, argued in a statement that this is a momentous day for the country’s future when it comes to clean energy and that this would have an impact on the climate. He noted that the bipartisan law is going to lead to greater national and energy security while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating thousands of new jobs. It will also ensure that the zero-emissions energy source will remain safe.

However, some have criticized the bill which will boost nuclear power due to the possible safety concerns and challenges connected to nuclear waste.
