(ConservativeFreePress.com) – Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers have seized three large shipments that appear to contain over 2,000 pieces of luxury jewelry that appear to be from brands like Rolex, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton.
The CBP’s Center of Excellence and Expertise has noted that according to their trade experts the 2,387 necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings appear to be “unauthentic.” If the goods were determined to be genuine, their total value would be above 10 million.
On July 1st, the CBP seized the first shipment which had arrived from China. That original shipment was found to contain 66 fake Gucci necklaces, 75 fake Dior necklaces, and 23 fake Louis Vuitton necklaces. These were set to arrive at a residence in Brooklyn, New York.
Law enforcement officials had seized the next two shipments on July 3rd, which also came from China and were meant to arrive in Miami, Florida. Within those shipments, officers had found 42 necklaces, 42 pairs of earrings, and 78 bracelets, with the logos of the jewelry including Cartier, Arpels, and Van Cleef.
The items had not been insured and were seized by authorities for trademark infringement.
Chicago Field Office director of Field Operations La Fonda D. Sutton-Burke had argued that these seizures showcased the work that their officers were performing daily in order to keep the country and its economy protected. He added that every day they were seizing fraudulent shipments as criminals were attempting to exploit the mail environment in order to sell counterfeit products.
