( – On Friday, a Pentagon spokeswoman attempted to cover for President Joe Biden’s memory lapse during the presidential debate the previous night.

Biden had stated during the first debate against former President Donald Trump in 2024, that the reality is that he is the only president in this century that does not have any U.S. troops dying abroad, unlike what Trump had done.

A reporter had asked Sabrina Singh, the Department of Defense deputy press secretary, whether these comments were something that the Pentagon stood by.

In response, she stated that for any comments regarding the debate or the remarks of the president, they would refer them to the White House. However, she added that when it comes to service members who have tragically lost their lives across the world, the president has often called the families of those who have fallen to express condolences. She noted that Biden is something who very closely knows what commitment and dedication are required by the military.

Since Biden first took office 16 U.S. troops have been killed abroad, 13 of those deaths had taken place on Aug. 26, 2021, during the chaotic retreat from Afghanistan, while the other three had died in Jordan less than half a year ago. There have also been many U.S. troop members who have died in training incidents during the Biden administration.

From March 2022 to November 2023, 20 service members had lost their lives in Osprey-related crashes, while in April 2023 during a training exercise in Kentucky, nine soldiers had been killed.
