(ConservativeFreePress.com) – Kimberly Cheatle, the now-director of the Secret Service, had previously claimed that she would talk with agents regarding training about the responsibilities of their job as they need to protect the U.S. president and other leaders. However, despite this earlier statement when she was leading the operations of the Secret Service, in 2021 during “Standing Post,” a Secret Service podcast, Cheatle had stated that the Secret Service and agency had a “zero fail mission.” She noted that every day agents needed to come ready.

However, following last week’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, there have been a lot of criticisms about the Secret Service and its director relating to that “zero fail” mission. During the shooting at his rally, a gunman had been able to be perched on a nearby rooftop and get a clear line of sight to the former President before opening fire. Many lawmakers from both sides of the political spectrum have questioned how it was possible for the gunman to be this close to the former President, and Republican nominee when he is supposedly being guarded.

On Monday, Cheatle testified before lawmakers after the Biden administration and Congressional Committee launched several investigations. Cheatle had previously called the incident “unacceptable” during an interview with ABC News. She had also argued in response to a question about who had the responsibility to protect the former President, that ultimately that responsibility falls with the Secret Service.

Cheatle pointed out that she is the director of the Secret Service so the “buck stops” with her.

As of Tuesday morning, she admitted fault and has resigned, even though she previously refused.
