(ConservativeFreePress.com) – On Tuesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that his original plans for Tesla to create a gigafactory in Mexico are going to be halted until the U.S. presidential election passes, as former President Donald Trump has pledged to set tariffs on vehicles that have been manufactured in Mexico.

Musk during his opening remarks had been asked about whether there were any updates regarding the plan to construct the Gigafactory. The plan had originally been announced in February 2023. In response, he argued that as of right now they have put a pause on the Mexico plan and that they are going to wait to see where things are going to be after the election.

Musk in his explanation noted that Trump has stated in the past that he intends on placing heavy tariffs on vehicles that are manufactured in Mexico. He noted that for this reason, they would first wait to see how things turn out politically before continuing with these plans.

Tesla has not yet announced which of its products or vehicles are going to be produced in the GigaFactory. Musk has also pointed out that the company is taking into account the pause and will be increasing production capacity in some of the existing factories, including the production of Optimus and Robotaxi both of which are produced in Texas.

In March, during a campaign speech, former president Donald Trump had claimed that if reelected he was going to enforce a 100 percent tariff on all Chinese vehicles constructed in Mexico and then imported into the country.
