(ConservativeFreePress.com) – Former President Donald Trump stated that he had “automatic chemistry” with Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and argued that their disagreements in the past were just because Vance had not been familiar with him. Last week during the Republican National Convention Trump announced Vance as his running mate. The two will now appear together in St. Cloud, Minnesota, a state that has recently started being considered competitive even though it has been over five decades since it last voted Republican.

John McLaughlin, Trump’s pollster, argued that they have chances of success in the state because of Vance’s Midwestern appeal. In 2016 Trump had only lost the state by 1.5 percent against Hillary Clinton. However, in 2020 that percentage had increased as he lost to President Biden by 7 percent. The Trump campaign is looking beyond the traditional swing states as they try to gain enough support to ensure Trump’s reelection. As part of these efforts, Trump’s campaign has opened eight new field offices in Minnesota.

Trump has touted Vance’s Midwestern roots, emphasizing his business success and advocacy for American workers and farmers in states like Minnesota.

The presidential race is going through a major shift currently as President Joe Biden announced that he is dropping out of the presidential race. He has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the next presidential nominee. This has energized the Democratic base with increased fundraising efforts and support for Harris by many Democratic leaders. Despite this, the Trump campaign continues to be hopeful about its battle against Harris in battleground states.
