(ConserativeFreePress.com) – Trump has broken his silence on the attempt on his life that occurred at a rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Speaking to the New York Post, former President Donald Trump acknowledged that he is “not supposed to be here” and that he is “supposed to be dead.”
Trump noted that a doctor at the hospital where he received medical attention after a bullet grazed his right ear revealed he “never saw anything like this” and described what happened to Trump as “a miracle.”
Speaking onboard his private plane as he headed to the Republican National Convention, Trump asserted, “By luck or by God,” he is still alive, adding “many people are saying it’s by God” that he is “still here.”
The former President explained that had he not turned his head slightly to the right when preparing to read an immigration chart, the bullet that grazed his ear would have been fatal.
Trump called the Secret Service agents who rushed to protect him “linebackers,” and highlighted how one agent successfully eliminated the gunman with “one shot right between the eyes.”
Trump praised their efforts, noting they “did a fantastic job,” and mentioning how the incident was still “surreal for all of us.”
As Secret Service agents surrounded Trump, he is heard saying he wanted to retrieve his shoes. He explained to the Post that because agents had hit him so hard, his shoes fell off.
The presumptive GOP nominee also reacted to the image of him raising his fist surrounded by Secret Service agents seconds after the assassination attempt. He highlighted that many people had described the photograph as “the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen.”
Trump noted that in many places, hearing “a single shot” would send everyone running. But rallygoers heard “many shots and stayed.”
The former President expressed his love for them, stating, “I love them. They are such great people.”
